My Top 5 Entrepreneur Movies of All Times

Updated: Jun 29, 2022

Introduction

In the world of show business, it's often said that there are only seven basic plots. This is a lie. In fact, there are only two: (1) getting the reward and (2) getting the girl. Add money to either and you’ve got yourself a movie! Still, as much as we might enjoy seeing some dude get his dream girl, we all know that more than anything else we want to see people get rich on screen. And now that summer blockbuster season is officially kicking off with this past weekend's release of Dr.Strange, what better time to rank the best movies about making bank? Sure, these aren't conventional picks for a 'best money movies' list because they don't have pirates or superheroes in them—but what they do have are smart takes on how capitalism works in 2022.

These five movies will make you want to be an entrepreneur

  • The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

  • The Founder (2017)

  • Boiler Room (2000)

  • Moneyball (2011)

  • The Social Network (2010)

The Wolf Of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street is a movie about a stockbroker who becomes rich by defrauding investors and spending the money on luxury items. The film was based on a true story, and it was nominated for five Academy Awards in 2014. It was directed by Martin Scorsese, who also directed films such as Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. The movie was released in 2013.

The Social Network

The Social Network is a 2010 American biographical drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin. Adapted from Ben Mezrich's 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal, it portrays the founding of social networking website Facebook and the resulting lawsuits. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as founder Mark Zuckerberg, Alexander Kirk as Eduardo Saverin and Andrew Garfield as Napster founder Sean Parker.

The film was released on October 1, 2010 to positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It was nominated for six Academy Awards at the 83rd Academy Awards in 2011. It won three awards: Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin), Best Original Score (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross) and Best Film Editing (Kirk Baxter).

The Founder

The biopic about Ray Kroc, who bought the McDonald's franchise, is about how he built a fast food empire. He used his skills to create a business that would be successful. The Founder focuses on how Ray Kroc used his skills to create a successful business.

Boiler Room

Boiler Room is a 1999 movie that follows a group of young men who work in an illegal stockbroker boiler room. The movie details the high-pressure sales environment, as well as the moral dilemmas facing these characters, who ultimately overcome their obstacles and find some measure of success.

Moneyball

Moneyball, a 2011 film starring Brad Pitt, is about the Oakland A's and how they turned their fortunes around by using statistics to determine the value of players. The team was losing money and wasn't a good team. It's not just a baseball movie; it's an inspirational story that teaches you how to use statistics in everyday life.

If you’re looking for a great business movie, look no further. We’ve got you covered with the list above.
